# Enable a duress PIN

A duress PIN is an alternate PIN that you can enable to automatically delete the encrypted wallet information from Jade if entered.

You will want to use a duress PIN:

- **In case of physical threat**: You can provide this PIN to an attacker, rendering your wallet inaccessible via PIN.
- **As a decoy**: You can store a copy of your duress PIN with your Jade for a thief to enter if they locate and steal your device. After entering the duress PIN, it will appear that Jade simply experienced a failure by displaying the message "Internal Error".

> **Warning:** If you create a wallet-erase PIN and subsequently enter it upon login, there is no way to regain access to your funds except by restoring your recovery phrase. [Make sure you have a backup](https://helpcenter.dxp-frontend.devserver.app/blockstream-jade/set-up-transact-recover-your-wallet/set-up-jade) before proceeding.

During an active Jade session, select **Options** → **Authentication** → **Duress PIN**.

Enter a PIN that is different from your normal PIN and confirm your selection. If an attacker enters this PIN on your Jade, it will delete the information from Jade and you will need to [restore with your recovery phase](https://helpcenter.dxp-frontend.devserver.app/blockstream-jade/set-up-transact-recover-your-wallet/restore-recovery-phrase-to-jade).
